“It’s very simple. In the past, I have bought some of the most famous Gran Turismo cars and in each of these magnificent machines I have found some faults. Too hot. Or uncomfortable. Or not sufficiently fast. Or not perfectly finished. Now I want to make a GT car without faults. Not a technical bomb. Very normal. Very conventional. But a perfect car.” Ferruccio Lamborghini
The self-supporting body (monocoque) of the Aventador, like that of the Sesto Elemento study, was largely made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic. This is why the Aventador, at 1575 kilograms, is 90 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, the Murciélago. Like its predecessor, the engine is a longitudinally mounted V12 mid-engine with a displacement of 6.5 litres. It delivers a maximum of 515 kW (700 hp) at 8250 rpm and has a maximum torque of 690 Nm at 5500 rpm. The power is transmitted to all four wheels. The power-to-weight ratio is lower than that of the Murciélago, at 3.06 kg/kW (2.25 kilograms per hp). The Aventador consumes 16.0 l/100 km, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 370 g/km
The Lamborghini transmission is an “independent shift rod” transmission from Oerlikon Graziano, which can be set to both automatic mode and manual mode via shift paddles. With this newly developed transmission, gear changes can be performed in 50 milliseconds. In addition, the ISR transmission is only about half as heavy as a dual-clutch transmission and requires significantly less space.
Lamborghini took inspiration from racing for the suspension and the monocoque. Suspensions on unevenly long wishbones are also used in Formula 1.
