“I couldn’t find the sports car of my dreams, so I built it myself.” – Ferdinand Porsche
The Porsche 911 GT1 98 will be remembered as one of Porsche’s most symbolic cars. Its performance was inferior to that of its direct rivals, however, its great reliability earned it the victory in the endurance race of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, this being Porsche’s No. 16 victory, a historical record.
Porsche is characterised by the added value of each of its products and conquests. The 911 GT1 98 is more than a sum of good components… this racing car combines a delicate exterior design, a great technological development and a key factor: the reliability so longed for in vehicles of maximum performance.
The year 1998 saw the moment of glory of Porsche, which presented a car of quite exotic appearance: the Porsche 911 GT1 98. During the course of the 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours, Porsche cars were relegated to the domain of the Toyota GT One. But in the middle of the race one of the Toyota cars suffered an accident. Subsequently, another Toyota had technical problems that forced him to quit. Other rivals also suffered mishaps that left a free track for Porsche.
The reliability award was a perfect finish, in which Porsche 911 GT1 98 cars came first and second in the overall standings.
