“Good cars get you from point A to B, great cars get you in trouble.” – Anonymous

The Grand Sport name not only appeals to the model’s earliest history, dating back to the early 1960s, when the legendary Zora Arkus-Duntov, the first chief engineer responsible for the Corvette developed a racing version of the Corvette C2 generation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Equipped with the powerful V8 283 engines and mechanical injection, it was first in the GT class in the famous race at the La Sarthe circuit.

This project derived between 1962 and 1963 in the creation of the first Corvette Grand Sport street, which with Arkus-Duntov at the head of the project, intended to be an edition of about 125 copies to meet the approval of its category in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1963. However, only five units had been assembled when General Motors made its historic order to eliminate all official racing programs in all the brands of the group, which greatly affected Pontiac and Chevrolet, but involuntarily caused the birth of Pontiac GTO, and therefore the era of muscle cars. The golden age of American motoring.

This piece was part of a small lot that came out in 1997, don’t hesitate to get it.
