Volkswagen is a German brand created in 1937 by Ferdinand Porsche.
The brand’s origins can be found in Nazi Germany in the 1930s with the project to build the popular car that would become the Beetle.
The best known of all is the Beetle which was produced at the Wolfsburg factory and then switched to the Golf factory in 1974, sold in the United States under the name “VW Rabbit” in the 1970s and 1980s. The Golf distinguished itself from the Beetle in many ways, both aesthetically and mechanically (its angular line was designed by the Italian Giorgetto Giugiaro). It was in line with small city cars such as the Mini (1959) and the Renault 5 (1972)
Volkswagen also has a range of smaller vehicles, represented by the Polo launched in 1976.
The latest model continuously monitored by Volkswagen is the fifth generation Volkswagen Passat family sedan.
In 1998, Volkswagen launched the New Beetle, a modern vehicle with lines reminiscent of the Beetle that did not enjoy the success of its predecessor. In 2002, the brand decided to launch models in new segments, such as small leisure 4x4s or low sedans.
