The first car was named DAT after the initials of the founders of the company: Den, Aoyama and Takeuchi.

In 1918 they created the Datson “The son of DAT” name that in Japanese sounds like an expression that comes to say “For little money” this car was a small two-seater sports car. Later the name would change to Datsun.

    Dat Motor Car Co.

    Later, in 1925, the Company adopts the name of “Dat Motor Car Co.”, and upon joining the group “Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo” changes its name to “Dat Automobile Manufacturing”.

    In 1931 it became associated with “Tobota Imono Co.”, and the following year “Dat Automobile Manufacturing” began manufacturing the first Datsum models (the product of joining the acronym Dat to the term sun “in English: sun”, symbol of the empire).

    Finally, on December 26, 1933, Dat moves to the city of Yokohama and changes its name to “Nissan Motor Corporation”.
