Props—that’s the name given to the objects used in a film. They are the dream of many collectors, but the reality is that they usually end up in the hands of those who can afford to buy them, or, at the very least, those who created them. More than just objects, original props are tangible artefacts of film history.
Their value on the collectors’ market continues to rise. Indiana Jones’s hat from ‘The Temple of Doom’ went up for auction with an estimated price of between $150,000 and $250,000. Harry Potter’s magic wand, Darth Vader’s lightsaber or Tom Cruise’s sword from ‘The Last Samurai’ are other examples of the extremely high value that such items can reach. And when a piece is also signed by the star who wore it, its value skyrockets to another level.
